It is bedtime and Little Ted is monkeying around. He is pretending he's forgotten how to put on his pyjamas and is trying to wear them all different ways.

It was bedtime and Little Ted was monkeying around.

“I don’t want to go to bed yet” Little Ted said “it’s too light outside.”

“It won’t be light in your room once we close your curtains. They’ve got a special lining to keep the daylight out” replied his Mummy.  “Come on, time to get your pyjamas on.”

Little Ted picked up his pyjamas which were inside out from when he had taken them off that morning and he pulled them on, but uh oh the PJs were still inside out when he put them on.

His Mummy burst out laughing. “Oh Little Ted, you silly billy. You look like you’ve got dressed in the dark, why don’t you try again.

“I can’t remember how to put them on” Little Ted said. This time he decided to try swapping his PJ top and bottoms around and he put his legs in the sleeves of his pyjama top and the bottoms onto his head. That made walking quite tricky as he could only waddle along while holding up the pyjama top, until the PJ bottoms slipped over his eyes and he collapsed in a heap laughing.

His Mummy shook her head at the sight while smiling “Those jammie bottoms look like a new type of hat and only your legs are going to be cosy with that outfit. Come on, we need to clean your teeth so let’s try again and hope its third time lucky.”

Little Ted stripped off his PJs but then deliberately put them on back to front, giggling as he  walked backwards towards the bathroom. He picked up a pair of sunglasses from the shelf and put them on facing backwards so it looked like he had eyes in the back of his head. He also tried to put on his slippers the wrong way round but he couldn’t fit his feet inside them so he had to settle for standing on top of them with the slippers pointing backwards. Then he stood with his back to the mirror and tried to look at his reflection. This was quite difficult so his Mummy got him a small hand-held mirror and showed him how he could use this to see his reflection in the bathroom mirror.

“Sorry Mummy I can’t clean my teeth tonight because my mouth is at the wrong side of my head and I can’t open it.”

“Hmmn, let me help you. We’ll just have to go in from that cave that’s in the back of your head. Open sesame.”

Once his teeth were cleaned to his Mummy’s satisfaction and Little Ted had admired his back to front outfit again in the mirror, she announced:

“Right Little Ted enough larking around, time to get dressed properly for bed.”

So Little Ted took his jim-jams off and put them on again for the fourth time, making sure they were turned the right way out and facing forward with the tractor motif at the front. He carefully put his legs into the jammie bottoms and slipped the top over his head. Then he climbed into bed still smiling from all the messing around.

“That was funny Mummy” Little Ted said “I like wearing my clothes the wrong way round. Can I do it again tomorrow?”

His Mummy gave a non-committal “We’ll see”, tucked him in and wished him a back to front goodnight by saying

“Night-good Ted Little. Night-good.“
