It was very sunny outside and Little Ted was feeling hot. He had tried to cool down by having a cold drink and also by fanning himself with a piece of paper, but nothing seemed to work, he was still too hot. Then he had an idea…

“Can we get the paddling pool out please” Little Ted asked his Mummy “I’ll help to blow it up.”

Little Ted’s Mummy remembered the last time Little Ted had said he would help to blow up the paddling pool and how he had rapidly lost interest quite soon after starting to use the foot-pump, but she also knew that once it was blown up it would be a great way to keep cool.

“Sure no problem,  but you will have to put suncream on and also help to put it away again afterwards. Now let’s see if its still in the shed.“

“And can I ask Alex to come and play in it too. I’m sure he’d like to.”

Little Ted and his Mummy took the paddling pool from its box, along with the foot-pump and the hose so they could fill it up from the tap and unpacked everything. Then taking turns, they used the foot-pump to inflate it and it gradually took shape. After checking for air leaks and giving the sides a quick wipe down, his Mummy connected up the hose and handed it to Little Ted.

“On you go, you can pretend you’re a fireman. I’ll go and get a little hot water to put in so it isn’t too chilly.”

Little Ted took the hose and giggled as he sprayed water in and around the pool. It seemed to take ages to fill up but finally everything was ready – the pool was full, his suncream and swimming trunks were on and the sun was still shining. And just as he had finished getting everything ready, there was a knock at the door and Alex turned up, ready for action.

“Yippee, watch out Mummy” Little Ted called as he jumped into the water with a great big splash.

“Woohoo, watch out LT’s Mummy” Alex called as he jumped into the water with an even bigger splash.

Little Ted and Alex spent the next hour in and out of the pool, splashing around and refilling it using the hose whenever the water level dropped too far. They were so busy that they didn’t notice his Mummy taking something out of another box.

“I’ve just remembered Little Ted that I got this water slide at the end of last summer in the sales. We’ll blow up the sides and add some soapy water, then you can add that to your water park.”

His Mummy set up the slide so that it ended at the paddling pool and connected the hose, then she added some bubble bath for bubbles and extra slippiness. Little Ted and Alex took it in turns to see who could slide the furthest or the quickest with bonus points if they made it all the way to the paddling pool.

Finally after playing all afternoon, they were exhausted.

“Thank you for inviting me to your pool party” Alex said before he went home “I had a really fun time.”

“Thanks for coming” Little Ted said “let’s hope its sunny again tomorrow, so we can play in it again.”
