Little Ted said... it wasn't me!

Little Ted is playing with his friend when something special gets knocked over. But if it wasn't Little Ted, who is the naughty badger?

Little Ted and his friend Jamie were playing in the living room. They were pretending to wrestle like  WWF wrestlers when CRASH something fell.

“What’s happened?”  asked Little Ted’s Mummy as she came into the room. “Have you knocked something over?”

“No” Little Ted and Jamie said at the same time, while looking guilty.

The problem was they had knocked something over. And that something was a vase that his Daddy had given Mummy for her birthday and now it had broken into 3 pieces.

“Oh no Little Ted, look you’ve smashed my special vase – that was a present to me from Daddy and now it’s in bits. Why can’t you be more careful?”

“It wasn’t me” Little Ted said “it was the naughty badger.”

“What naughty badger, I don’t see anybody or any badger in this room.”

“That’s because he’s hiding because he knows he’s been naughty.”

“Well you tell him how upset I am that my special vase is broken and that things don’t just fall, particularly when they are sitting on a side table so everyone needs to take more care when you’re playing.”

Little Ted hung his head and looked down at the ground. He knew his Mummy was upset with him but he hadn’t meant to knock the vase over.

“I’m sorry Mummy. You can use my bear bank money to buy a new one. Or I can make you one – Mrs Miller showed us at nursery how to make a vase using glue, strips of paper and a balloon. Or I can try gluing it back together?”

Little Ted’s Mummy sighed and picked up the pieces of the broken vase, then went to put them in the bin. She felt sad because whenever anything got broken it always seemed to be one of her favourites  - at this rate she’d have nothing left.

After his Mummy had left the room, Little Ted and Jamie thought long and hard about how to make it up to her. They couldn’t unbreak the vase and they couldn’t make a new vase the same as the one that had got broken. So they decided to make a We’re Sorry card instead. Little Ted found the biggest piece of card he had, folded it in half then they both started to decorate it. They made some flowers using tissue paper and glue and stuck them on the front. They were going to draw a picture of a vase for the flowers but decided that might remind his Mummy about the accident and upset her again.

On the inside they both drew a picture of themselves with sad faces. And a picture of a badger looking sorry.

Once it was finished, Little Ted gave the card to his Mummy. “I’m sorry we broke your vase Mummy. I’ll make sure naughty badger never does anything like that again.“

“Thank you Little Ted. And please try to be more careful in future because if something like this happens again, you won’t be allowed to have friends round and the naughty badger might not be around to blame.”
