Little Ted is feeling very proud and is buzzing with excitement - he has just been given a Well Done certificate at nursery. Now who else deserves one,,,

Little Ted was feeling very proud and was buzzing with excitement. Mrs Miller his nursery teacher, had given him a certificate for being extra helpful tidying the toys away and he couldn’t wait to show his Mummy.

“Look Mummy” Little Ted said as soon as he spotted her waiting at the entrance “I got a special Well Done certificate for helping Mrs Miller today.”

“Oh good for you Little Ted, I’m very proud. We’ll show Daddy later when he gets home and then put it on the fridge so everyone can see it.”

As they walked along, Little Ted chattered away about everything he had done that morning including what he had eaten for snack. He enjoyed going to nursery because they had different toys to play with and his teacher always had lots of ideas for activities.  But this was the first time he had been given a Well Done certificate.

“Look Daddy it has my name on it” Little Ted said later as he showed his Daddy and he pointed to where it said in capital letters LITTLE TED. “What else does it say?”

“It says ‘Well Done. This certificate is presented to LITTLE TED for being extra helpful at nursery today’ And it’s been signed by Mrs Miller and has today’s date.” That’s a really nice thing to get Little Ted.

“Have you ever had a Well Done certificate Daddy?” Little Ted asked.

“Now you come to mention it, no not since I was a boy. I don’t think we say Well Done often enough to people once we become adults. Or to each other. So let’s try to do more often – will you help me get started by making a certificate of our own?”

“Can I put some stars on it?”

“Of course. What else should go on it?”

Little Ted and his Daddy made the certificate on the computer with lots of stars and smiley faces then printed it off.

“Now we have our certificate, the next question is who should we give it to?” asked his Daddy.

“We could give one to Mummy for making sure I get to nursery on time” Little Ted suggested.

“That’s true, but I think Mummy might appreciate if you thought of something a little more special that she does for us, and that perhaps we take for granted.”

“I like it when she makes pasta for tea”

“So do I Little Ted but what else is there?”

“I like it when she tucks me into bed and kisses my head.”

“Also a good suggestion. Anything else?”

“She lets me win at card games even though I’m not very good. And I like when she finds things that I’ve lost – Mummy’s very good at that!”

“That right, she always seems to know where things are. So should we give her a Well Done certificate for being a champion item locator?”

“Yes! Will you help me write Mummy’s name on it?”

Once the certificate was ready, Little Ted and his Daddy gave Mummy a big hug and a kiss and gave the certificate to her.

“Oh thank you for my certificate Little Ted and Daddy. I’m glad you think I’m a champion item locator, because I’d be lost without both of you in my life.”

After his Daddy had left the room to go and watch television, Little Ted tugged on his Mummy’s sleeve and whispered...

“I think we should give Daddy a certificate too, then we’ll all have one.”

“That’s a lovely idea Little Ted, what should it be for?”

“I really like when he puts on funny voices when telling a story. It could be for best silly sounds.”

And Little Ted’s Daddy looked very proud to be given his certificate and put it on the fridge next to the others.
