Little Ted meets Ben the puppy
Show Notes Transcript

Little Ted's friend Alex has got a new pet and Little Ted can't wait to meet them. If only he could have a dog of his own.

Little Ted was playing at his friend Alex’s house. Alex had a new pet and Little Ted was excited to meet them. It was a puppy called Ben who was a golden brown colour and about the size of a cat. Little Ted didn’t have a dog so he was happy and anxious at the same time, but there was no need to worry as Ben was twice as excited to meet him. In fact, Ben was so excited that he wee’d on the floor!

“Look” Little Ted said “he’s done a pee pee.”

“Oh dear” said Alex’s Mummy “he’s still very young and gets carried away. He’s not fully house trained yet.”

“Are puppies boys and kittens girls?” Little Ted asked.

“No-oh” replied Alex “Puppies are baby dogs and kittens are baby cats.”

“Oh yes” said Little Ted laughing “I forgot.”

Little Ted tried rolling a ball for Ben, but the puppy kept running away with it as soon as he got it. Next the puppy picked up Little Ted’s hat and ran off with that.

“Stop, that’s my favourite hat” Little Ted shouted “Give it back.”

With Alex’s help he managed to rescue the hat and soon Ben the puppy calmed down and lay panting while Little Ted gently stroked him.

“I wish I had a dog” Little Ted said “but my Mummy says dogs make her sneeze.”

“That’s a shame” said Alex’s Mummy “although dogs like most pets need to be fed and looked after every day and can be a lot of work. Alex has promised that he will help take care of Ben, but he might change his mind when it’s raining outside!”

“Can we take Ben for a walk now?” Little Ted asked.

“Yes, take him into the garden and try to encourage him to do his toilet training outside.”

Alex clipped the lead onto Ben’s collar and Little Ted led him outside. Ben walked around the garden, stopping to sniff at every plant pot and smell the grass every few steps. After he had been sniffing around for a while, Ben stopped at a large bush and started trying to paw at something hidden in the leaves.

“What’s he doing?” Little Ted asked Alex, followed by “Look he’s got something in his mouth. What is it?”

Alex looked closely “That’s my old bouncy ball. I wondered where it had gone.”

Soon they heard Alex’s Mum calling to them to come inside for snack.

“Come on Ben” Little Ted said “I’ll give you a piece on my biscuit”

“Ben has his own biscuits” said Alex “they are shaped like a bone, but I don’t think you can eat them, they are just for dogs. We’ll ask my Mummy if we can give him one.”

Once they were inside and sitting at the table, Little Ted looked all around.

“Where’s Ben” he asked “I don’t see him anywhere.”

“That’s because Ben has gone to his dog bed for a sleep. Puppies are like small children and need lots of sleep, because they are so active when they’re awake.”

When Little Ted’s Mummy came to pick him up, Little Ted told her all about taking Ben for a walk around the garden and pretended that he was a dog like Ben.

“Woof” Little Ted said “Woof woof. I’m a nice doggie, please pat me.”

“That’s good news” said his Mummy. “It means I can take a dog home with me without having to worry about them making me sneeze. Come on Little Ted dog, time for your din dins.”
