Little Ted visits a fairy trail

Little Ted goes on a magical fairy trail. Will he meet any fairies and what words of wisdom will they say?

Little Ted was eating his breakfast. Today he was having cereal with banana and he had almost finished.

“Well Little Ted, are you ready for your surprise?” asked his Daddy.

“What surprise?” Little Ted said sounding surprised that there was a surprise.

“Oh, maybe I’m not meant to tell you yet” teased his Daddy.

“Tell me what, what’s the surprise? Please tell me, please tell me, please tell me...”

“The surprise Little Ted is that this evening” said his Daddy pausing for dramatic effect “we are going to a Fairy Trail hunting for fairies and other woodland creatures.”

“Fairies, like with wings?” Little Ted clapped his hands together and jumped up and down. He had read about fairies in his story books but had never seen one himself.

“Exactly Little Ted. You’ll have to wait until its dark, as that’s the best time to spot them and we’re going in the car to a special Fairy Trail and hopefully you’ll see one.”

Little Ted felt excited all day and could hardly wait until it was time to go. He had to dress up warmly and he wore his dinosaur wellies in case it was muddy. Then he set off with his Mummy and Daddy. As they got closer they could see the trees in the woods lit up with different coloured lights and hear music playing. It looked magical.

Before he started along the trail, Little Ted was given a glow stick to help light the way and told to pay special attention to the purple markers, as that usually meant there was a fairy house nearby. Soon Little Ted spotted the first sign and his Daddy read out the rhyme that was written on it.

“My name is Mary and I’m a woodland fairy.

I live in a little blue house with my friend, Freddy the mouse

See if you can spot me”

Little Ted looked up high, Little Ted looked down low and then “Look, look – its next to the toadstool” and he crouched down beside the little blue house and very carefully opened the door. Inside was a tiny table and chairs and sitting on two of the chairs was Mary the fairy and a mouse.

Little Ted carried on, searching for the fairy houses and finding all sorts of other creatures along the way. There were rabbits, deer and hedgehogs and the woods were full of sparkly lights.

But uh-oh here was a wooden bridge with a big sign next to it that said “Danger, beware of the naughty trolls”. As they started to cross, a spotlight suddenly went on and lit up the ugly face of a troll carved into a tree trunk. Little Ted squeeled and held tightly to his Daddy’s hand – he was sure he could hear the troll growling.

Towards the end of the trail they came to a fairy house that was much bigger than the others they had seen so far. The sign outside said:

“My name is Charlotte and I am Queen of the fairies. Knock 3 times to see if I’m at home”

Little Ted put his hand on the green door and knocked gently once, twice, three times then waited.

Suddenly a real live fairy appeared from behind a willow teepee.

“Hello and good evening. I hope you’ve enjoyed my fairy kingdom. Now that you know fairies are real, please remember:

All the little creatures must share nature’s space

with animals and fairies living side by side with grace.

We’re only very tiny but like having lots of fun

So if you treat us kindly, we’ll be back to see you again”
