Little Ted is playing his Incy Wincy Spider board game and is close to winning. But oh no, here comes the rain...

Little Ted was playing one of his favourite board games. It was called Incy Wincy Spider and he had to spin the spinner to see if the sun will shine or if it’s going to rain, causing his spider to be washed back down the drainpipe. But first he had to roll the dice to see how many spaces he could move. As the game went on, Little Ted got very excited when he was almost at the top of water spout and only needed one more square to win, but he was also scared to spin in case he got washed back to the bottom.

“Come on Little Ted, you have to spin the needle. If it lands on sunny then you will be the winner, but if its rainy... whoosh you’ll be back down at the bottom” teased his Mummy. “Are you ready? One,  two, three - go for it”

Little Ted closed his eyes, wished for a sunny day and pushed the spinner with his finger. What would it be?

“Uh-oh” said his Mummy “looks like you’re washed back to the beginning” and she began to sing the song

“Incy Wincy spider climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
So, Incy Wincy spider climbed up the spout again”

As she was singing his Mummy also did the actions of the spider climbing, the rain falling, the spider getting washed away, and then the sun shining to dry up the rain.

“Come on Little Ted, you join in as well. Actually, do you still have the spider you made at nursery for Halloween? Go and get it and it can help you act out the song.”

Little Ted went and found his Halloween spider, singing the Incy Wincy song as he went. The spider had 8 furry legs made from pipe cleaners, some googly eyes and hung from a string. Meanwhile his Mummy rolled up a long piece of card to create a makeshift drainpipe.

“Ready Little Ted? We’ll use this glitter to pretend that its raining and a yellow ball can be the sun. All together now…Incy Wincy spider climbed up the water spout…”

Little Ted pulled on the string so his spider started climbing up the drainpipe but oh no, his Mummy sprinkled some glitter and the poor spider whooshed back down to the bottom.  Little Ted laughed as he shook the glitter off his spider and pretended that the sun was drying up the water. Then he started singing the song all over again. Incy Wincy spider climbed up the water spout…

When Little Ted was tired of singing and acting out Incy Wincy he remembered another spider favourite of his and fetched his Spiderman action figure. He thought it was hilarious to make Spiderman climb up the waterspout, and because he had super Spidey skills, Spiderman was able to fire off his web shooters so he wasn’t washed out when the rain came. Then Spiderman decided to climb up the sofa, the table legs and even the curtains.

As Little Ted was standing on the sofa so Spiderman could climb even higher up the curtains, he had a bit of a wobble and almost knocked over the lamp.

“Careful” called his Mummy as she was vacuuming up the glitter. “Remember my little Spiderman that with great power, there also comes great responsibility! And we don’t want you getting whooshed back down to earth.”
