Little Ted was feeling grumpy. His Daddy and Mummy try to cheer him up with a  Something Hunt.

Little Ted was feeling grumpy. Little Ted was in a bad mood.

“What’s wrong Little Ted” asked his Mummy “Why are you looking so gloomy?”

Little Ted didn’t answer, he just scowled and looked even grumpier.

“What wrong Little Ted” asked his Daddy “Has something upset you?”

Little Ted didn’t answer, he just stood there scuffing his foot back and forward.

“Are you tired Little Ted?” his Mummy tried again but Little Ted didn’t reply. Instead he picked up his juice and went and sat on the sofa.

Little Ted didn’t usually feel grumpy, normally he was a happy, cheerful boy so this was most unusual. His Mummy and Daddy kept on trying to coax him into saying why he was in a bad mood but without success.

“Well if you’re not going to tell us what’s wrong, we’ll leave you in peace until you remember how to smile” said his Daddy, but then he had an idea. “I know what will put a smile on your face – if I turn you upside down! After all, a frown is just an upside down smile.” And he picked up Little Ted and tipped him the wrong way up then tickled him.

“Stop stop, that’s tickly” Little Ted said giggling. He was already feeling better now that he was laughing and couldn’t actually remember why he had been feeling grumpy. “I like being upside down Daddy, it makes me feel funny.”

“That’s better” said his Mummy “It’s nice to see a smile back on your face. Why don’t you play with Mr Potato Head and see if you can give him a smiley face too.”

Later on, Little Ted remembered why he had been grumpy. It was because he couldn’t find his silver car.

“Have you seen my silver car” Little Ted asked? “I can’t find it anywhere and I want to play with it.”

“Sorry no, I haven’t” answered his Daddy.

“Have you checked the toy box” asked his Mummy “And in your bedroom”.

Little Ted had looked in his toy box but not his bedroom, so he went upstairs.

“Pretend you’re a pirate looking for some silver treasure” his Daddy called after him. This gave his Daddy another idea – he would make up a list of thing for Little Ted to find.  When Little Ted came back downstairs (without finding his car), his Daddy told him all about his idea. “It’s called a Something Hunt. I give you a Something challenge and you need to bring me an item that matches. Then I’ll tell you the next thing to find”

Little Ted clapped his hands and gave a big smile. “Can we play it now?”

“Yes of course. Your first challenge is to find and bring me something Blue”

Little Ted set off to look for his first item and soon came back with a blue ball. Next he had to find something Hard so he brought his Daddy a piece of Lego. Then it was something Shiny, something Small, something Squishy, something Smelly , something you can Eat, something with Wheels, something Orange and finally  something you can Read.

By the end of the game his Daddy was surrounded by lots of Something stuff and Little Ted had completely forgotten he was ever in a bad mood.
