Little Ted makes some cakes

Little Ted is helping his Mummy in the kitchen. They decide to make some cakes - will Little Ted be able to resist eating the ingredients?

Little Ted was trying to help his Mummy in the kitchen. He was standing on a chair with his hands in a bowl of soapy water, doing his best to wash the dishes from lunchtime. Unfortunately everything kept on slipping back into the water and banging together much to his Mummy’s alarm.

“Careful Little Ted, those plates will break if you drop them or knock them against each other.”

Little Ted however, was enjoying splashing about in the soapy water although the growing puddle beside him on the floor was another reason his Mummy was looking concerned.

“Little Ted, if you enjoy washing up so much, why don’t we make some cakes. Then you can wash the bowls afterwards.”

Little Ted liked making cakes, particularly when they involved something made with chocolate and he got to lick the bowl at the end.

“Can we make chocolate krispie cakes?”

“Yes, I don’t see why not - we should have all the ingredients. Go and get the rice krispies out of the cupboard and I’ll gather together everything else. “

Soon, they were ready to start. Mummy got Little Ted to break up the chocolate into small pieces and put this in a bowl, with only the occasional piece somehow ending up in his mouth. Then they added 3 spoonfuls of syrup and a little butter. After that his Mummy took the bowl away and melted the chocolate mixture, while Little Ted laid out cupcake cases on a tray. He liked raisins with them, so he also put a few in the bottom of each case.

Once the chocolate was melted his Mummy put the bowl on a towel and held onto it while Little Ted added the rice krispies.  He mixed and mixed with a spoon and then mixed some more until finally the krispies were fully coated in chocolate and Mummy said they were ready.

“Right Little Ted, time for the tricky part – see if you can put a spoonful in each cupcake case without spilling too much.”

Little Ted had to concentrate to do this and he tried different spoons until he found one that was just the right size for getting the chocolate mixture into the cases. However, the hardest part was trying not to lick the spoon until he was finished.

“All done” Little Ted said. “When can I eat one?”

“Sorry Little Ted we’ll have to wait for them to set. But before they do, would you like to add some chocolate sprinkles on top?”

Next, the krispie cakes were put in a cool place to harden up and set. And Little Ted got to his favourite part of making cakes - scraping the bowl for any bits that had been left behind. Once it was a clean as he could get it, he carried it over to the sink.

“Right then, ready to do the washing up Little Ted?”

Little Ted wasn’t really in the mood now to do washing up. He wanted to go and play with his cars, but his Mummy insisted.

“It won’t take long and a good cook always tidies up after themselves.”

Fortunately there wasn’t very much to wash up and with his Mummy’s help it was soon done.

“Do you think the cakes will be ready yet?” Little Ted said hopefully.

“Not for an hour or so. Go and play and I’ll let you know as soon as it’s time to taste the results of your hard work.”
